Lunch Scheme

Bringing out the best in every child we teach

The School Meals Programme is operated by the Department of Social Protection. This funding enables The Mercy Primary School to provide ‘Free Lunches’ to our pupils.

Upon enrolment, parents are given a ‘Lunch Order Form.’ This form enables them, with their child, to choose from a lunch menu the items they wish to select for lunch from Monday to Friday.

Lunch Scheme

This programme aims to provide regular, nutritious food to children and thus enabling them to take full advantage of the education provided for them.

Research has shown that inadequate nutrition impacts negatively on children’s ability to learn and benefit from education.  Proper nutrition can improve children’s ability to concentrate, improve disruptive behaviour and encourage children to attend school.

The School Meals Programme is an important component of policies to encourage school attendance and extra educational achievement by children.
